“Var gibi”ı, sanatçının çocukluk belleğinde yer eden bir güvenlik ritüeline dayanır. Annesiyle yaşadığı evde, babasından kalan ayakkabılar her akşam kapı önüne bırakılır; evde bir erkek varmış duygusu yaratılmaya çalışılınırdı. Sanatçı bu ayakkabılara en inandırıcı pozları vererek bu oyunu sürdürürdü.
Kırık cam ve bakır tel ile üretilen boş ayakkabılar, paspas üzerinde sanki yeni çıkarılmış gibi durur. Ancak kırılgan yapıları, içeride gerçekten biri olup olmadığını sorgulatır. Çalışma, varla yok arasında salınan baba figürünü ve güvenlik arayışını görünür kılar.
“As If Present” is based on a security ritual rooted in the artist’s childhood memory. In the home she shared with her mother, her father’s shoes were placed outside the door every evening, to create the impression that a man was living there. The artist continued this act by carefully arranging the shoes into the most convincing poses.
Crafted from broken glass and copper wire, the empty shoes rest on a doormat as if they had just been taken off. Yet their fragile and sharp structure raises doubt about whether anyone is truly inside. The work makes visible the father figure oscillating between presence and absence, and the longing for security.
