“Korse” başlıklı bu çalışma, toplumsal ve ailesel beklentilerin birey, özellikle de kadınlar üzerindeki baskısını ve dayattığı kalıpları eleştirel bir bakış açısıyla ele alır. Kadınlara atfedilen “şöyle olmalı, böyle davranmalı” gibi yerleşik normlar, tarihsel olarak hem bir estetik araç hem de bir yük olarak görülen korse metaforu aracılığıyla incelenmektedir. Çalışmada yer alan süslenmiş korseler, toplum nezdinde “güzel” ve “kabul edilebilir” olarak lanse edilen, ancak özünde bireyin rahatlığını ve hareket özgürlüğünü kısıtlayan, hatta zarar veren beklentilerin birer yansımasıdır. Bu yolla, toplumsal beğeni uğruna katlanılan bedeller ve bireyin söz konusu beklentiler karşısındaki sıkışmışlık hali gözler önüne serilmektedir.
This work, titled “Corset”, critically examines the pressures of societal and familial expectations on individuals, particularly women, and the rigid roles imposed upon them. The entrenched norms attributed to women—such as “one must be this way” or “one must behave that way”—are explored through the metaphor of the corset, which has historically been seen both as an aesthetic object and as a burden. The adorned corsets featured in the work reflect what society promotes as “beautiful” and “acceptable,” yet in essence, they restrict comfort, limit freedom of movement, and even cause harm. In this way, the piece highlights both the costs endured for the sake of social approval and the individual’s sense of confinement in the face of such expectations.
