Virginia Woolf’un “Kendine Ait Bir Oda” adlı eseri, kadınların yaratıcı potansiyellerini tam olarak gerçekleştirebilmeleri için öncelikle “kendine ait bir oda”ya sahip olmaları gerektiği fikrini savunur. Bu “oda”, fiziksel bir mekân olmanın ötesinde, kadınların dış etkenlerden bağımsız düşünebileceği, yaratabileceği, zihinsel özgürlük ve mahremiyet alanını temsil eder. Resimde bu odayı kurmaya çalışan bir kadın görmekteyiz, şu an mekana sahip ancak dış etkenler hala orada.
Virginia Woolf’s “A Room of One’s Own” defends the idea that women primarily need “a room of their own” to be able to realize their potential for creativity. This “room”, transcending the physical reality, represents the mentally private and free space where women can think and create independent from outside factors. We can see in this painting a woman that’s trying to create “the room of her own”, where she has the space, but still shackled with the external factors.
