Bu, doğadan alınan bir maddenin birkaç kez dönüşmesinin hikayesidir. Ağaçtan kâğıda, kâğıttan insana. Yani: doğadan bilgiye, bilgiden bedene. Her şey bir ağaçla başlar. Topraktan yükselen, gövdesiyle oksijen taşıyan canlı bir varlıkla. O ağaç kesilir, liflerine ayrılır, öğütülür, hamura dönüşür. Ve sonunda gazete kâğıdı olur; haber taşır, reklamlar, manşetler… Bir süreliğine “güncel” olur, sonra unutulur, çöpe karışır. Ama o kâğıt aslında bir canlıdan geriye kalandır. Bir izdir. Bir tanıklıktır. Ben bu unutulmuş malzemeyi yeniden ele alıyor, portrelere dönüştürüyorum. Her bir yüz, aslında doğaya dönmenin, yeniden canlanmanın, yeniden bulmanın bir formudur.
This is the story of a material taken from nature and transformed several times. From tree to paper, from paper to human. That is, from nature to knowledge, from knowledge to the body. Everything starts with a tree — a living being that rises from the soil, carrying oxygen through its trunk. That tree is cut down, separated into its fibers, ground, and turned into pulp. And in the end, it becomes newspaper paper; it carries news, advertisements, headlines… It becomes “current” for a while, then is forgotten and mixed with the trash. But that paper is actually what remains from a living being. It is a trace. It is a testimony. I take this forgotten material again and transform it into portraits. Each face is, in fact, a form of returning to nature, of being revived and rediscovered.
