“Bizim Apartman”, bir apartman yaşamının alegorisi üzerinden benliği ele alır. Her ben, toplum içindeki bir bireye; her birey de Ben’in çoğullaşmış hâline işaret eder. Bu benlikler, aynı mekânda birlikte yaşamak zorunda olan ama birbirine katlanamayan apartman sakinleri gibi, çelişkilerle örülü bir toplumsal yapıyı görünür kılar. Toplumsal ilişkiler, benliği sürekli yeniden şekillendirir; benlik topluma benzedikçe, toplumsal olan da bireysel benliğin içine sızar. Böylece bireysel olan ile kolektif olan arasındaki sınırlar Ben’ler aracılığıyla görülür.
“Our Apartment” addresses the self through the allegory of an apartment life. Each self points to an individual within society; and each individual points to the pluralized form of the Self. These selves, like apartment residents who are forced to live together in the same space yet cannot tolerate one another, make visible a social structure woven with contradictions. Social relations constantly reshape the self; as the self comes to resemble society, the social also seeps into the individual self. Thus, the boundaries between the individual and the collective become visible through the selves.
