In works emerging from letters written by a psychiatric patient, Dilara Göl channels the organic connection she forged with the patient into her art. She focuses not on the individual’s illness, but on the sensitivity contained within. While navigating the words of this stranger, the artist seeks answers to societal questions: “Who decides what is normal or abnormal?” and “If someone differs from others, does that make them broken?”
Dilara Göl (b. 1995) graduated from Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting in 2017. In 2016, the artist participated in Siemens’ Borders Orbits 18. Her works were exhibited at Base in 2017, Mamut Art Project in 2018, and numerous group shows. Göl held her first solo exhibition, Disorder, in 2021, followed by her second solo exhibition, Kelimelerin Yankıları Var, in 2023 at Simbart Projects. Rather than seeking or narrating a story, Dilara Göl immerses herself in the flow of process, expanding her field of sensitivity. With a symbolist approach, she articulates her practice through metaphors, treating diverse materials as instruments for the concepts she contemplates. Her work evolves openly to transformation and change, embracing spontaneity as she responds to emotion and imagery.
